One important metric for success

One of the most powerful metrics I teach designers to track is Average Job Size (AJS).
👉 AJS = Total Sales ÷ Number of Jobs
Why does it matter? Because it shows the scale of your work and whether you’re spending your time on small jobs or high-value projects.
And it’s not just for designers. Every professional has an AJS:
Real Estate Agent: average home sale price
Contractor: average renovation value
Lawyer/Consultant: average client engagement fee
Coach: average revenue per enrolled client
Freelancer: average project fee
Think of it like this:
Low AJS = more hustle, smaller margins
High AJS = fewer clients, bigger impact, stronger revenue
For closet designers, raising AJS is the difference between selling “just white closets” and running a multi-million dollar design practice.
🔑 Question for you: What’s your AJS, and how are you working to raise it?
